The municipality of San Luis is a 4^th income class town of the Province of Batangas. It used to be part of Taal but formally from its mother town separated in the year 1861. In the present day, San Luis has a total land area of 4,256 hectares and a population as per the 2020 Philippine Census of 36,172. It has 26 barangays and is part of the 2^nd legislative district of Batangas.

San Luis can be reached by road from Manila via the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road through Lipa City, Cuenca, Alitagtag, Santa Teresita and Taal.
