Letter Denying Gagalac Guerrillas’ Request for Reconsideration, Jan 48

The Gagalac Guerrilla Group was one of the groups operating in Batangas that was given official recognition by the United States Army after World War II. In this January 1948 document1, Captain R. E. Cantrell, Assistant Adjutant General assigned to the Philippines-Ryukyus Command, responds to an earlier letter sent by one Lazaro Malabanan requesting for reconsideration of the date of recognition for the Gagalac Guerrilla Unit by the United States Army.

HEADQUARTERS
PHILIPPINES-RYUKYUS COMMAND
OFFICE OF THE COMMANDING GENERAL

GSCPU 091 PI APO 707

Mr. Lazaro Malabanan
Batangas, Batangas
Philippines

Dear Mr. Malabanan:

This will acknowledge receipt of your letter, dated 15 December 1947, requesting reconsideration of the decision rendered by this headquarters on 5 May 1947 regarding the revision of recognition dates of the Gagalac Guerrilla Unit, together with an apparent true copy of a statement by Major R. S. Kramer, dated 8 September 1945, concerning this unit.

You were in formed in our letter of 5 May 1947 that a thorough and detailed examination was made of all the supporting papers submitted by this unit together with an extensive study of the history of this unit. As a result of this protracted investigation, the recognition date of this unit was revised from 8 March 1945 to 5 October 1944.

An examination of the statement of Major Kramer forwarded in your letter of 15 December 1947 fails to reveal sufficient material to warrant modification of the decision of 5 May 1947.

Inasmuch as it is considered that this organization has received all the consideration that is warranted with regard to the revision of the recognition dates, no further consideration being justified, it is necessary to inform you that our letter of 5 May 1947 constitutes the final determination of and action upon the period of official recognition of the Gagalac Guerrilla Unit.

The additional evidence forwarded in your letter of 15 December 1947 will be placed in the unit file for record purposes.

Sincerely,

R.E. CANTRELL
Capt. AGD
Asst Adj Gen
