Memo to Lobo Unit Company Commanders on the Posting of Guards and Outposts, May 1943

[TRANSCRIPTION]

The Lobo Unit, USAFFE Guerrilla was originally considered by the United States army as part of the Pandita Area, DI Combat, Free Luzon Area, 6th Military District guerrilla outfit under the command of one Danny Flores. The mother organization was not favorably considered for recognition by the United States Army. In this page is a transcription1 of a memorandum issued to all company commanders by one Captain Ben on the posting of guards and outposts and general caution regarding Japanese raids.

: GUARDS AND OUTPOSTS.
: ALL COMPANY COMMANDERS
  LOBO UNIT MINDE AREA.

1. All company commanders are hereby ordered to post guards and outposts in your sectors of jurisdictions for the Japs are hunting guerrillas particularly in the nearby mountains and to eliminate surprise attacks, all headquarters are then ordered to post outposts where these can detect the approaching Japs without being noticed and can at once give the alarm to the headquarters and civilians.

2. Guards must be stationed not far from the headquarters and be given the instructions in case there is a raid in your headquarters. Never permit anybody to have jokes or to disguise himself in order to surprise his followers for it will be always done, you might be acquainted with such foolish actions, although it is in the real Japs raiding your headquarters, send any officers and enlisted men pretending to be [and they would be] court martial led by the Headquarters.

3. Never hire the civilians to be your guards in your headquarters or to be [man] the outpost of your headquarters and my officers and enlisted men reported to this headquarters of having been using force thru the name of the unit will be punished accordingly for the offense he is entitled.

4. In every outpost, there must be two runners for the elimination of shouting reports and in that case, the headquarters will not be detected by the Japs or spies.

5. In case the outpost reports that the Japs are approaching, never forget to bring with you all papers and records and [be] very careful not to leave anything within the spot of your headquarters for the safety of everyone.

6. In your escape from any raids, never fire as if you still challenged the raiders for we are weak to challenge such a force and in such case, they will follow you wherever you go, so avoid firing any kind of arms.

7. Follow orders and comply with instructions from this Hq.
