Letter from US Army Acknowledging Masilungan's Request for Info on Recognition, November 1948

The San Jose Batangas Guerrillas was another unit in the province of Batangas that fought the Japanese under the banner of the large guerrilla organization called Fil-American Irregular Troops, commanded by the former United States Army Col. Hugh Straughn until he was caught and executed by the Japanese. The San Jose unit was commanded by one Amado Masilungan. In this document1, one Thomas Brown of the United States Forces in the Western Pacific replied to Masilungan acknowledging receipt of a letter sent by the latter requesting for information on the status of the San Jose Batangas Guerrillas’ application for official recognition.

Mr. Amado Masilungan
San Jose, Batangas

Dear Mr. Masilungan:

Your letter dated 5 March 1946, sent through the American Embassy, requesting the status of the San Jose Batangas Guerrilla Unit, has been received.

Your application for recognition has been filed in this headquarters pending further investigation. A great number of similar applications requiring investigation has been received and considerable delay is to be expected before final action in your case. However, your application will receive attention at the earliest practicable date and you will be informed promptly when a decision is reached.

This headquarters has on file exact duplicates of all enclosures sent, therefore, the same are being returned.

It is suggested that you defer further inquiry regarding the status of your application for at least 60 days. Such inquiries are neither necessary nor desirable because the time consumed in additional correspondence and interviews serves to delay final disposition.

Sincerely yours,
THOMAS J BROWN
