Recommendation of Capt. Octavio Nicolas to C.O., 49th Regiment, Hunters-ROTC, Feb. 45

[TRANSCRIPTION]

The Alcazar Battalion was a guerrilla unit purportedly founded by one Emilio Alcazar in the town of Talisay, Batangas in March of 1942. It was supposedly initially affiliated with Marcos Agustin’s guerrilla outfit but, because of difficulties in communicating with the mother unit, it later became attached instead to the Hunters-ROTC. Communication with this other large organization, however, was also poor so that essentially, the Alcazar Battalion operated independently. In this page is a transcription1 of the a memorandum with recommendations sent by one Capt. Octavio Nicolas of the Alcazar Regiment to the Commanding Officer of the 49th Regiment of the Hunters-ROTC through the Executive Officer.

1. Your letter dated February 3, 1945 stating the transfer or men of the Town Unit to our organization was studied by the undersigned. It is true that many are still appearing in our C.P. and trying to be transferred to us, but sorry for them, because this office won’t admit them.

2. Now that this Bn. is fully recognized as per letter from your C.P. stating the recognition of the 4th Bn. 49th Regt., I wonder if you won’t mind bringing you up this matter and be studied by your command that all members of ROTC here in Talisay be put in one solid command.

3. I don’t recommend this proposal so as to acquire men but to avoid troubles, complaints and hardships. This may also avoid jealousy among ROTC members because supposing that the Town Unit gets some things or have anything which we don’t have or vice-versa, of course that members in any respect will be jealous because he is an ROTC just the same and he doesn’t have the things which the other has.

4. Now that since most members of this organization are brothers, cousins and relatives, I wonder if it will not bother you much to study this matter. As I said that if this will be put into one command, it will be much better because we can work harmoniously. As to observation, a group of men can work smoothly with one good operating factor rather than that of several ordering body with same bunch of men.

ONWARD TO VICTORY!

FOR THE COMMANDING OFFICER.
