Act Number 2815 Establishing the Municipality of San Luis

The case of the establishment of the Municipality of San Luis is a strange one. It was historically part of the town of Taal until the Spanish colonial government saw fit to establish it as an independent town. It existed as one until 1903, when the fledgling American colonial government returned it back to Taal because San Luis did not meet the income threshold required for municipalities.

However, in February 1918, presumably because San Luis already met the income requirement, it was reestablished as an independent town by way of Act Number 28151 of the Philippine Legislature under the colonial government. The contents of the act are provided below:

AN ACT REESTABLISHING THE MUNICIPALITY OF SAN LUIS IN THE PROVINCE OF BATANGAS

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Philippines in Legislature assembled and by the authority of the same:

SECTION 1. The municipality of San Luis, Province of Batangas, is hereby reestablished to consist of the territory which comprised the former municipality of San Luis prior to its annexation to the municipality of Taal.

SEC. 2. The first municipal election in the municipality of San Luis shall be held at the next regular election for provincial and municipal officers.

SEC. 3. The public good requiring the speedy enactment of this bill, the same shall take effect on its approval.
