Miscellaneous Documents of the Alcazar Battalion

[TRANSCRIPTIONS]

The Alcazar Battalion was a guerrilla unit purportedly founded by one Emilio Alcazar in the town of Talisay, Batangas in March of 1942. It was supposedly initially affiliated with Marcos Agustin’s guerrilla outfit but, because of difficulties in communicating with the mother unit, it later became attached instead to the Hunters-ROTC. Communication with this other large organization, however, was also poor so that essentially, the Alcazar Battalion operated independently. In this page are transcriptions1 of various documents in the U.S. Army file on the Alcazar Battalion.

1. Because of the absence of orders from your office with regard to brother units of Tanauan and Sto. Tomas, I confined myself not to bother those units in order to avoid misunderstanding between myself and the respective C.O.’s of these organizations.

2. Request that this Headquarters be furnished copy of organization of Tanauan and Sto. Tomas, names of C.O.’s of each organization so as to facilitate me to get close contact with them.

3. No reports ever received by this office dealing intelligence activities of the organization cited in Par. 2 above, presumably because of misunderstanding.

1. You are hereby notified that more than a platoon of our men listed under our battalion are at present busy aiding American troops in Tagaytay. These men of ours are headed by Capt. Isaac Tolentino, Co. Commander of Col “C” 1st Lt. Gerilo Solis. Most of these men are residing in Tagaytay, that is why they are eager to participate in such kind of job. As proof of our good cooperation, they were given some clothes, food, and supplies of hand grenades. The undersigned was also given [a] card of identification being recognized by them.

2. Since that the sector of our battalion are Talisay, Tanauan and Sto. Tomas, I wonder if you will let us take back our 10 men stationed in your regiment? Their service is badly needed here as guards and intelligence men. As it is now, our strength is less than 2 companies because they won’t enlist unless they see the arms. Besides the units of Tanauan and Sto. Tomas are not yet connected to us.

3. We hope you will spare us those men and we will send you some after we have made the settlement with the units of Sto. Tomas and Tanauan. Wishing your consideration.
