Memo to Lobo Unit Company Commanders Rebuffing Japanese Propaganda, January 1944

The Lobo Unit, USAFFE Guerrilla was originally considered by the United States army as part of the Pandita Area, DI Combat, Free Luzon Area, 6th Military District guerrilla outfit under the command of one Danny Flores. The mother organization was not favorably considered for recognition by the United States Army. In this page is a transcription1 of a memorandum issued to all company commanders of the Lobo unit rebuffing Japanese propaganda designed to dupe the local population that the Americans were no longer returning to the Philippines.

1. The Japanese Colonel made a vigorous propaganda that the Americans will no longer return to these Islands as per report by the intelligence operatives obtained from a meeting held in the town plaza last Sunday.

2. It is the desire of this Headquarters to repeal these propaganda on such [unreadable] we are trying to promote the faith of not losing hope on the fulfillment of General MacArthur’s promise of LIBERATION.

3. Japanese propaganda will in no ways reveal their defeats to demoralize the faith of the masses for what they want is the economic support of the Filipinos, so for the time being that they are in power, what we can only do as a service to our country is to plant and cultivate within our hearts the words “I SHALL RETURN BY GENERAL DOUGLAS MACARTHUR.”

4. Company Commanders are hereby advised to assign men on propaganda for the return of the General and instruct the people of our sector to plant more and hide their harvests to eliminate confiscation by these bald headed monkeys.

5. We are here as guerrillas and not conquering forces, so it is our duty to guide, protect and advise [unreadable] as to elements comprising fifth columns and to promote the welfare of the oppressed people until they return.

6. Don’t lose faith for time will come that these sacrifices and services rendered by us and our men will be rewarded as distinguished services to our motherland and as homage allegiance to the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

7. Each and everyone of us must not forget the [unreadable] of our rosters signed and thumb marked with allegiance to the Commonwealth Government of the Philippines and the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA to foster nationalism and to welcome the NUMBER ONE GENERAL OF THE WORLD GENERAL DOUGLAS MACARTHUR INTO THE PHILIPPINES.

8. Promote the safety of our Unit and the welfare of the civilians in the first place of our services.
